Restoring data
Your data is safely stored and
available for easy retrieval as and when required.
From the Start menu in the Windows
taskbar select the Programs option and click on RIVET to open the RIVET
backup application. Alternatively this can be achieved by double clicking on
the RIVET desktop icon.
Left click The Restore tab in the left hand window.
Enter your password and click
OK. The password is the one you setup during your RIVET account registration.
If it is just yourself or trusted sources using your computer then you can take
this password off by selecting "Password required for restore" from the Options

The left hand window contains
a list of definitions saved at RIVET. The gold padlock represents the definition
names and the silver padlocks represent the backup cycles. For more information
on definitions see working with definitions.
On first use this window will be empty as there
will not be any saved definitions to view. Each definition could contain a number
of backup cycles depending on the options originally selected.
Select a backup cycle within the
definition that you require to restore by left clicking on it.
The right hand pane provides a
view of all the particular data associated with the selected definitions or cycle.
The general layout of this directory structure is the same as that used for the
original selection of files for backup.
Select the data that you want
to restore in the right hand pane by left clicking the check box next to the
appropriate file, folder, directory or drive. See selecting
data for restore for more details.
The data is now ready to be restored
to either the original location where it was backed up from or to a new location
to be selected on your computer or server.
Select to restore either to the
original or a new location by left clicking on the relevant button at the bottom
of the restore screen.
If the original location is selected,
the data will be restored to the original location.
-
If a new location is selected,
a dialogue box will appear providing options as to where to locate the restored
data. Select this by browsing or typing the new location in the box. Click OK
to confirm this selection and the data will be restored to the new location.

Selecting data for restore
Before any files can be restored,
they must first be selected. To select files:
-
Go to the directory structure
in the right hand pane of the restore window. This represents a view of the data
presently backed up within the selected backup definition or cycle. Note: to
update this information from the server, you will need to be connected to the
Internet. RIVET will automatically connect and retrieve the information required.
To navigate through the directory
structure, left click on the plus "+" box next to a drive, directory or folder
to expand it or conversely left click on the minus "-" box to contract it.
To select an entire drive, directory
or folder to restore, left click the box beside it. A tick will appear within
the box and the icon representing the drive, directory or folder (depending on
the selection) will change colour signifying that it is now designated to be
restored. Note: To indicate that all elements within a drive, directory
or folder have been selected for restore, the check boxes will appear to be greyed
out.
